Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish
This week's topic: Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds
(love reading, are writers, work at a bookstore, etc.)
Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye mentions that he
likes The Great Gatsby (makes ya
wonder if Jay Gatsby would have liked The
Catcher in the Rye – probably not)
Bilbo Baggins who actually
wrote There and Back Again: A Hobbit’s
Tale (later known as The Hobbit) and
most of The Lord of the Rings
Don Quixote
of course, who was driven insane by reading tales of chivalry
Jane Eyre
read Gulliver’s Travels
Emma Bovary from Madame Bovary – She reads novels
I
seem to remember nearly identical words of Anna Karenina, but I am not certain, so I won’t count Anna.
Stephen Dedalus from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
read numerous pieces of classic literature, and goes on to be a writer (generally
considered to be Joyce’s alter ego)
Claudius from I, Claudius is a writer of history,
besides being Emperor of Rome
David Copperfield read a quite a bit as a child and later becomes a writer/novelist (generally
considered to be Dickens’ alter ego)
John Shade author of the
poem Pale Fire, and central character of the novel Pale Fire
Philip Carey from Of Human Bondage read quite a bit as a
child (and is considered by the Wanderer at least to be Maugham’s alter ego)
You are classics fan :D. Great List!

Shame on you Zezee ;)
DeleteAny classic lit character is likely "safe" to put on a book nerd list. They nearly all read a book at some point in their story! Glad to see David Copperfield and Jane Eyre on this list. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Dreaming Under the Same Moon.
Nice list! I've read a few of these, but not nearly as many as I should have ... and I call myself an English major. For shame.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Good job catching so many classic bookworm characters.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anne
DeleteGreat list! Bilbo was especially well-read for a Hobbit.
