Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created
by The Broke and the
Bookish
I seriously
doubt I am going to get to 10 books this Spring; I have some pretty sizeable
tomes coming up. I’m currently working my way through one right now. I hope to
finish it before the vernal equinox, but there’s a fair chance I won’t, so it’s
#1.
1. The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling by
Henry Fielding
Liking it, not loving it, getting a bit
tired of it, but maybe Fielding will wow me with the ending.
2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Looking forward to it as it will seem a
pretty easy read compared with the others, and I loved the only other work I’ve
read by Austen: Emma
3. War and Peace by Tolstoy
Looking forward to this too –
seriously. I know it’s sort of intimidating, but I liked my other experience
with Tolstoy: Anna Karenina , and ya know, it’s War and Peace. It’ll make me a
literary 1 percenter.
4. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
A reread. I thought it was brilliant
the first time in High School. Curious to see if my perception changes.
This might
be as far as I get before summer, on my scheduled Quest reading. I’ll have a
few other reads going concurrently though.
5. Flannery O’Connor The Complete Stories
I’m in the middle of this right now,
going very slow. I’m undecided. Definitely interesting and some lovely prose.
6. The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens
I definitely won’t finish this spring
as it is a 19-month read along. The Pickwick Papers read along
That’ll
probably do it, making this Top Six Tuesday.
OK, OK,
fussy 'bout da rules? To fill it out to Ten, but I probably won't get to these
until Summer.
7. The
Ambassadors by Henry James
8. An
American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser
9. Atlas
Shrugged by Ayn Rand
10. Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens
That's quite a list! I can't wait to read Dumas. Pride & Prejudice is brilliant. Enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jillian.
DeleteOh, you have some great ones on here. War & Peace - how exciting! I desperately want to read this again, but I feel like the next time I do, it should be the ONLY book scheduled for me to read at that moment. I don't want anything else getting in its way.
ReplyDeleteI loved Pride and Prejudice and wonder why I have not reread it, yet. (It's not complicated at all.) I'll be reading Pickwick Papers w/ you and the others. Also, I do want to read Atlas Shrugged!!! I secretly love Ayn Rand - she's such a radical woman. (I read The Fountainhead in college, and that was the start of my infatuation. I suppose the size of Atlas intimidates me, which is why I have avoided it. Shame on me!)
Thanks Ruth. Yeah, I'm excited about most of these, as well as the read along.
DeleteAll the classics! I applaud you for your aspirations! I've been wanting to read the Count of Monte Cristo. And I have War and Peace but it's a digital copy and I realized that's the wrong way to read it. lol. Impressive list!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful list! Pride and Prejudice is by far one of my all-time favorites. I've read Dumas' The Three Musketeers, but I haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo yet. Hope you have a lovely Spring and happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT List
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check your list.
DeleteWar and Peace is a great read and Pride and Prejudice is my favourite Austen. I have a number of larger reads coming up so I sympathize with the pressure!
ReplyDeleteAt least we won't be pressured by The Pickwick Papers.
DeleteYou have sooooo many of my favorites, P&P, War and Peace, Great Expectations, Atlas Shrugged and Count of Monte Cristo!! I almost want to exchange my TBR for yours! :) Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks...looking forward to The Pickwick Papers read along.
DeleteAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I adore The Count of Monte Cristo. My 2nd-favorite book.
ReplyDeleteOne of my top four all-time favorites, but it's been years. Curious to see how I feel with this reread.
DeleteJane Eyre is on my TBR. I didn't do one on my blog but it's on my mental TBR. I recently read Pride & Prejudice but didn't like it. I didn't like it the first time I read it either. I feel odd. I'll look out for your thoughts on it when you're done.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, P&P is spoiled a bit. I've seen the film (the good British rendering with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle). I loved the movie, so I expect I'll like the book. I just won't have any apprehensions about how it all turns out.
