Classics Club Spin #20


It is time for the 20thedition of the Classics Club Spin – List 20 books from your CC TBR, before April 22, the mods will pick a number at random, and then you have until January 31 to read the corresponding book.

Last time, I stated what number I was hoping for…and I got it, so this time, I am hoping for #15 or #11.

    Looks like a fun list with a bunch of great choices. I've never even heard of Oak Openings, but now that I look at it, it looks interesting.

      I only recently discovered Oak Openings (not one of his best known). It is set in my childhood home, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

    Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful read. And we both have Tom Sawyer! Lost Horizon and Gulliver's Travels I really enjoyed. Enjoy the spin, Joseph!

      I'll be happy with any of them. Lost Horizon will be a reread, but last time was over 40 years ago. I wonder if it will be as good.

    Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books. Gilbert Blyte definitely counts as a fictional crush for me! Here's hoping you get a fun one for you!

    You have some fun ones: Tom Sawyer, Oliver Twist, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Old Man and the Sea, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Fahrenheit 451, Gulliver's Travels, The Stranger...Wow! (I'd love to see what you think about Camus).

    I've read The Day of the Triffids. I really liked it at the time. I went through a John Wyndham phase back in the 1990s.

    You have such an eclectic mix of 20th and 19th century classics and some titles I've never even heard of. Happy reading!

    Ohhh The day of the Triffids - I went through a Wyndham phase in my 20's and loved all his early sci-fi work to bits. I do wonder how they will hold up 30 yrs later. But as a good Aussie, I wish you Picnic at Hanging Rock (then you can watch/rewatch the 1970's Peter Weir movie!)

      Picnic will be a reread. I heard not great things about the 70s film (didn't see it), but what I've seen of the new version...it isn't very true to the book.

    That's a great list. I had to read Day of the Triffids in third year at school, I enjoyed it. I think Greenmantle is Buchan's best book but not everyone would agree with me. I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

    I love to see Fenimore Cooper in your list, only few people admire him. I loved his The Last Mohicans, and The Deerslayer is in my list too.

    I have been curious about The Maltese Falcon. Would love to read your thoughts on it! Have fun with the spin, Joseph!

    Nise choices! Our overlap is "A tree Grows in Brooklyn", but mine's #10. And I've seen it on many spin lists today. Wonder why? I hope you get a spin you enjoy!

      I seem to notice that with each spin...there are certain titles that pop up repeatedly. I'm sure part of it is people comparing before they set they list, but I didn't look at anyone's before setting mine...so just must be synchronicity.

    I haven't thought about Where the Red Fern Grows in a long time, but that's a good choice. Of course, I also love Anne of Green Gables, but I'm not sure you'd go wrong with anything here. Enjoy!
