Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently (last yearish) That Weren't My Typical Genre/Type
of Book (or that was out of your comfort zone)
I
could only come up with seven, because most of my reading is of course by
definition, my typical fare. These are a bit outside the norm. I didn’t love
them all. Click the title/hyperlink for the review.
One Hundred Years ofSolitude by Gabriel García
Márquez becase I’d not heard of the novel or the author, or magical realism
I, Claudius by
Robert Graves because I don’t read a lot of historical fiction
Pale Fire by
Vladimir Nabokov because I don’t read a lot of poetry or metafiction
Dune by Frank Herbert
because I don’t read a lot of Sci-Fi
The Big Sleep by
Raymond Chandler because I don’t read a lot of detective/crime novels
Death Comes for the Archbishop by
Willa Cather because I don’t read a lot of westerns
Beloved by Toni Morrison
because I don’t read a lot of novels about slavery
.
