Subtitle: There's only one subtitle in this group, The Scarlet Letter is subtitle: A Romance. I dislike the subtitle though, as I don't consider this novel a romance, though I still consider it a superb novel.

Worst film
adaptation: I've only seen a few, and all of them were at least fairly decent portrayals.
I would definitely recommend a re-read of "Mrs. Dalloway" at some point in the distant future. I read it in high school, hated it, read it in an intro to LGBT literature class in college and it was bearable and I'm hoping when I re-read it for The Classics Club I'll truly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteYeah...I don't think I've ever disliked something more on the second read, but there are plenty that I enjoyed more the second time.
DeleteI really need to read Death Comes for the Archbishop--I remember really liking the writing, and your quote is proof as to that memory.
ReplyDeleteTry as I will, I'm just not a Virginia Woolf fan--maybe someday I will read Mrs. D., but I doubt it :)
Yes, now the Archbishop I can happily recommend. Woolf...mostly meh. But I did appreciate Mrs. D a bit more than To the Lighthouse.
