Original Cover Art for The Once Lost Wanderer
Hopefully, you have noticed the new image on The Once Lost Wanderer. It was created by my son, who does some free-lance art work. You can view more of his work at: Jonathan F did an Art on Facebook.
About the image – he’s sort of lost see…wandering…nose in a book…map in his pocket. Hopefully that’s obvious, but I didn’t want you to miss it.
There are five allusions to classic literature in the drawing, most of them pretty obvious, one is rather subtle. Do you get them all?
I wanted an allusion to Gone With the Wind, The Grapes of Wrath, and perhaps The Little Prince as well, but my son and I couldn’t come up with anything simple and subtle…open to suggestions.
Cheers
The Wanderer
Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI think I got three or four lit references. I don't know how subtle your son meant to be, so I'm stuck. I hope you tell us at some point.
I was thinking...for Grapes of Wrath, you could have a barren farm as the background, with an abandoned, run down house...but that would be so depressing. Or something similar for GWTW...a burned out Tara. (LOL emoji here)
He's reading To Kill a Mockingbird, easy enough if you can read the type. The next most obvious is probably the Shire - for The Hobbit and LOTR. Then there is the Raven from Poe of course, and the mile marker is a nod to Orwell's 1984. Leaving the London and Paris...referencing A Tale of Two Cities. Thanks for checking it out. Cheers.
DeleteYep, the only one I didn't get was Tale of Two Cities. Still don't know map. Am I missing a Sherlock Holmes reference?
DeleteNo Sherlock reference. And the map is nothing either...just shows he is wandering (not paying attention to the map)
DeleteGot the Raven and 1984 only. What a great picture though. He's very talented. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback Ruthiella
DeleteBit late to this, but I think the new artwork is fun! I saw Tolkien, Poe, and 1984, but London & Paris made me think Orwell again, with Down and Out in Paris and London.
ReplyDeleteI had to blow up the picture to see To Kill a Mockingbird, but that's probably just my old tired eyes...
This is a great header! For an allusion to GWTW, the guy could be wearing curtains. :P Or, the street sign could have a sign leading to Jonesboro, broken & lying in the dirt. Or the raven could be saying FIDDLE DEE DEE.
ReplyDeleteLove the London/Paris part!
Thank you Ma'am
