Welcome to The Once Lost Wanderer. The name is derived from two poems: Amazing Grace by reformed slave trader John Newton, and All That is Gold Does Not Glitter by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Sherlock Holmes

I am reading the Sherlock Holmes canon, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in chronological order (not publication order), as arranged in my 1967, two-volume, illustrated edition of the Annotated Sherlock Holmes.

The Gloria Scott from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (Holmes' first case)
The Musgrave Ritual from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

A Study in Scarlet The First Sherlock Holmes Novel (Holmes meets Watson)
The Adventure of the Speckled Band from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Resident Patient  from  The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor  from  The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Second Stain  from  The Return of Sherlock Holmes

The complete Sherlock Holmes canon consists of four novels and 56 short stories. The short stories are typically arranged in five collections:

A Study in Scarlet

The Sign of the Four

The Hound of the Baskervilles

The Valley of Fear

Short Story Collections

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

The Return of Sherlock Holmes

His Last Bow: Some Later Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes

The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes

  1. Conan Doyle is a favorite of mine with Sherlock perhaps the best. I have read the Sherlock canon several times. Enjoy!!

    1. I'm taking this very slow but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. With just a few exceptions, they are mostly first time reads for me.
