“In
either case, there was very much the same solemnity of demeanour on the part of
the spectators, as befitted a people among whom religion and law were almost
identical, and in whose character both were so thoroughly interfused, that the
mildest and severest acts of public discipline were alike made venerable and
awful. Meagre, indeed, and cold, was the sympathy that a transgressor might
look for, from such bystanders, at the scaffold.”
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

I haven't read 'The Scarlet Letter' yet, it was one of those which my school decided not to make us read! I have heard good things though, despite also hearing it is very heavy and quite depressing at times! I hope you enjoy it though! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great week!

When I read this as a teen, I didn't like it, but I've re-read a couple times as an adult and really enjoyed it.

Lots of words in those two sentences. I remember reading this one but only vaguely remember the plot. My teaser this week comes from Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOh I read this back in middle school and I remember really enjoying it. I should re-read it as an adult to see if I still like it as much!
ReplyDeletetrish - my teaser
I read The Scarlet Letter years ago and really liked it. The opening is so dark . . . It sets the tone well for what is to come, I think.
