Classics Club Spin #23

Classics Club Spin #23

It is time for the 23rd edition of the Classics Club Spin – List 20 books from my CC TBR, before April 19, the mods then pick a random number, and I have until June 1, to read the corresponding book.

However, I only have six books left on my CC list #2, and I’m already reading one of them…so I’m only listing five books – each of them four times.

1. The Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
2. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
3. Phantastes by George MacDonald
4. Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
5. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole
6. The Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
7. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
8. Phantastes by George MacDonald
9. Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
10. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole
11. The Sign of the Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
12. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
13. Phantastes by George MacDonald
14. Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton

  1. Tenant of Wildfell Hall is my favorite, I hope you'll get it! But I'm curious too about The Castle of Otranto - have been meaning to add it to my next list (I'm 8 titles more towards the end of the current list).

Good luck with the spin, Joseph!

    1. I'll be getting to Tenant soon regardless...in fact all of these soon, and will be happy with any of them.

  2. I'm with Fanda! I just read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall for the "Place" category for the Back to the Classics Challenge and I really liked it. If you have read other Brontes, it is interesting to compare the male "heroes" in their novels...this one included. The ToWH also has a strong Christian angle which I think you will appreciate.

    1. hehe...I also have Tenant for B2tC "Place" category, so will be killing two books with one read, and I will finally get to the third Bronte sister.

  3. I read Cry, The Beloved Country in high school and remember liking it, but it's been a long time...The Sign of the Four is a pretty good Holmes entry, I thought.

Nice that you're so near to the end of your list! Are you thinking about a new Classics Club list yet?

  4. I would choose Phantastes but I would love hear what you think of The Castle of Otranto. I laughed my way through that one and I don't think I was meant to. Whoops! In any case, have fun!

    1. Phantastes is probably the one I'm most excited about. I guess he influenced both Tolkien and Lewis.

  5. It's exciting when you can see the end of your list in sight! I will be starting my Sherlock Holmes journey, though, not ending it, if we spin #1 :-)
